Grant came into the world of square dancing at age 14 and learned to dance Basic, Mainstream, and Plus with his teen friends. The following year, they attended the WASCA Spring Festival and danced for three days from sunup until long after the sun went down. WASCA was his first experience dancing to a variety of callers. The rooms were filled with people dancing, having fun, and engaging with the callers. It struck Grant at WASCA that he wanted to be a modern western square dance caller and help put smiles on people’s faces.
Grant is a CALLERLAB member, BMI/ASCAP licensed, and calls up to the Plus level. He continues to dance by visiting clubs within two hours of where he lives and enjoys meeting other dancers, callers and experiencing their calling styles. He is developing a square dance program for dancers to visit nursing homes and assisted living facilities for exhibition dances, and teaching modern western square dancing to new dancers.
Grant looks forward to a future within the square dance community as a caller, to continue to introduce future generations to learn square dancing and hopefully a few to become callers too.
